With the Colts owning the first pick in the Draft and essentially Andrew Luck, the next big issue was who was going to pick 2nd overall in the draft and essentially grab Robert Griffin III out of Baylor. The Rams who own the pick said they wanted to trade it away and have been talking to potential buyers for a while trying to get the best deal. They have now got a deal for the 2nd overall pick and what a deal it is. Though the transaction cannot be made official until the league year officially starts on Tuesday, it has been reported that the Washington Redskins have won the rights to RG3. The Redskins get the 2nd overall pick while the Rams get the Redskins' 1st round pick in this year's draft, the 2013 draft, the 2014 draft, and the Redskins' 2nd round pick in this year's draft.
What a deal for the Rams. Three first round draft picks over the next three drafts, including this year's one, along with a 2nd round pick? I'm sure they and the St. Louis are quite happy with what they got or will get. As for the Redskins, big gamble here for the franchise. They are giving away a good chunk of their future for one guy. Sure, RG3 looks good and can play ball... in college. But no matter how good a player seems to be, there is always a chance that a player is a bust. I'll admit that I'm no talent scout and if the Redskins think that this guy is their future then go right ahead and take him. But it just seems like too much of a risk for one guy.
