The second round of the tournament is over (3rd round if you're a dick) and there have been a couple more surprises. One of which is #11 NC State beating #3 Georgetown, 66-63. The other is that my choice for a champion is out. #6 Cincinnati eliminated #3 Florida State (my pick), 62-56. Sloppy mistakes at the end doomed the Seminoles and made me look like a fool for picking them. Live and learn, I guess.
As for the other games, both of the upstarts have been eliminated. After defeating their respective #2 seed opponents, #15 Lehigh and Norfolk State have been beaten. Florida destroyed Norfolk state, 84-50, and Xavier beat Lehigh, 70-58. Sad to see these great possible story lines end so soon. Even last year's Cinderella, VCU, was eliminated when they were beaten by Indiana, 63-61.
All the #1 seeds managed to move on. Perhaps the "one" that is seeing red, however, is UNC as they lost one of their big players in their win over Creighton, 87-73. Kendall Marshall now has a broken wrist and now everyone is questioning whether or not he will be able to play for any of the remainder of the tournament or how effective he will be.
Well the Sweet 16 is set for next weekend and it's sure to be very entertaining. As for the #1 seeds, UNC will face #13 Ohio, MSU will take on #4 Louisville, Kentucky will take on #4 Indiana, and Syracuse will face #4 Wisconsin. While FSU is out, my other Final Four picks are still alive.
