The Padres have had control of the NL West for almost the entire season and looked like they could be one of the surprise teams of the year. That lead of the Padres would eventually dissapear and go to the Giants. With only 3 games left, the Giants and Padres face each other with the Giants needing only one win to clinch the NL West. They lost the first two games as San Diego was trying to force a one game playoff. The last game of the year came with Jonathan Sanchez showing how good he was... at batting? Sanchez managed to hit a triple in the 3rd inning and then score later with Freddy Sanchez hitting him in. Freddy would score, also, thanks to a double by Aubrey Huff. Those 2 runs and one more via a Buster Posey Home Run in the 8th gave the Giants a 3-0 lead going into the 9th inning. Brian Wilson was sent out and managed to grab the save getting 2 ground outs and then striking out the last man. Giants win and take the Division, 3-0.
The Giants advance to the postseason for the first time since 2003 when they last won the NL West. This team will face the Braves in the NLDS starting in AT&T Park. The Giants are a dangerous team to play as they have a great rotation with Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain, and Jonathan Sanchez. If their rotation is hot, they could go very far in October.
P.S. Your welcome Atlanta. Enjoy the Wild Card spot while you can. GO GIANTS!!!
