The 49ers took their team back East for another game. This time they faced the Washington Redskins. Despite starting the season off at 3-1, the Redskins had lost their last 3 in a row. Looked like another team the 49ers could handle and that they did. The defense of the 49ers was great getting 2 fumbles recovered and an INT. Not until the 4th quarter when it was too late did the Redskins score a TD. The 49ers offense was solid for the most part. Not spectacular but didn't make any costly mistakes except for a fumble by Vernon Davis but that led to nothing. Only TD for the red and gold was a Alex Smith TD pass to Bruce Miller for 30 yards near the end of the 1st half. 49ers would win this one, 19-11.
The 49ers win their 6th straight game and are undefeated on the road at 4-0. In fact, all the road games have been going East. Frank Gore sets a nice record, as well. Gore gets his fifth straight 100 yard rushing game with 107 rushing on 19 carries. That is a franchise record. Solid game for Smith going 17/24 with 200 passing yards and the one TD pass. The "don't try and do too much" approach with Smith is working.
49ers are 7-1 for the first 8 games of the year and only need 4 games to claim the division. Every other NFC West team has at least 6 losses already. Don't get too excited just yet. The next game is at home but against the Giants who just had a impressive win over the Patriots. Way to kick off the 2nd half of the year.
