10 years ago, tragedy struck the Oklahoma State Men's basketball team when 10 members of the team and staff were killed in a tragic plane crash. It was a travesty that OSU would never forget and one they would never want to relive. Unfortunately, it seems that lightning has struck twice for OSU. Last night, 4 people died in a plane crash with two of them being Kurt Budke, the head coach of the women's basketball team at OSU, and Miranda Serna, an assistant for the team. The plane went down in Arkansas killing them and former Oklahoma State Senator Olin Branstetter and his wife Paula. Olin was the pilot of the plane. The crash left no survivors.
It is unfortunate when something like this happens once. When it happens twice it seems like the fates are against you. OSU mourned the loss of Budke and Serna and respects were shown at the OSU-Iowa State game that night with a moment of silence given in Ames, Iowa. Budke and Serna will no doubt be missed by their players, their university, and the college sports world.
