Big Ten to Pay Athletes?

The amateur system of college sports maybe on the edge of a major change. The Big Ten conference is considering the possibility giving the athletes additional money for cost of living expenses such as food, clothing, etc. The Big Ten has plenty of money going around thanks to their great tv deal. Of course if such a thing would happen, it would have to be approved by the NCAA which actually seems to be open to discussing it. There a few that are skeptical such as the smaller conferences and schools bringing up things like unfair recruiting advantages as a result. It would definitely give the Big Ten an advantage there unless the other conferences are able to adjust.

We might've reached the point, folks, where college athletes might actually get cash for there talents along with the free education. It seems right to me considering that the NCAA, the conferences, and the BCS Bowl system has been taking advantage of these kids for far too long. Of course, the thought is that if such a thing were passed the money would be evenly distributed to all college athletes and not just the profit making sports. The recruiting issue would also have to be addressed. If the Big Ten conference is able to go through with this, the other conferences would have to react in order to keep there talented players. The smaller conferences like the C-USA might not be able to do this.

I actually support this idea. While there will no doubt still be players getting more benefits than anyone else because of their talent level, these scandals will be reduced because of this added benefit.

P.S. There is one more problem to consider as well: what is the limit of living expenses? Food, clothes, and travel no doubt are included but where will the line be?
