The Vancouver Canucks were the best team in the NHL all season long and seeing how they won the Presidents Trophy, some were skeptical that they wouldn't get to the Stanley Cup Final because of the perceived curse of having the best record. That didn't seem to bother the Canucks this postseason... so far.
Anyway, game 5 between the Sharks and the Canucks commenced in Vancouver as the Canucks were up 3-1 in the series and needed just one more win to move on. After a 1st period goal by the Canucks, the Sharks would fight back and manage to get a 2-1 lead for most of the third period. It looked like the Sharks would hold on to force a game 6 but Ryan Kesler managed to score a goal for the Canucks with just 13.2 seconds left in regulation. The game would go into OT and then a 2nd OT and thanks to a weird play that had almost everyone on the ice not knowing where the puck is, including the Sharks goalie, Antti Niemi, Kevin Bieksa sees the puck and shoot it into the net for the win. Canucks win it in double OT, 3-2, and advance to the Stanley Cup Finals.
The Canucks prevail and the best team in the NHL will play for Lord Stanley's Cup. The Sharks had a fine playoff run but fall short yet again, even after avoiding "The Comeback" from the Red Wings. But the Sharks, who tend to bring everyone's hopes up for a Stanley Cup title year after year only to let them down and fall flat on their face in the postseason, are not the story, it's the Canucks. They have not won a Stanley Cup yet and haven't been in the Stanley Cup Final since 1994. Whoever does come out of the Eastern Conference, the Canucks will be the favorite to win the next series.
P.S. Seriously, the Sharks should try mimicking the Giants "Torture" campaign but instead just say "Sharks Hockey: Choking Hazard."
