Cavs Win the Lottery While the Mavs Win Game 1

Basketball highlighted Tuesday for two different reasons. First was the NBA Lottery announcement to see who the first 14 picks in the NBA Draft were going to. Being the worst team this year, the T'wolves had the greatest chance of getting the first pick at 25%. But it was Cleveland that came out as the big winner getting the first pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. Along with it, they also grabbed the 4th pick thanks to a previous trade deal with the Clippers (technically the Clippers pick was the number one pick for the Cavs). That means that the Cavs have two of the Top 5 draft picks. I guess Nick Gilbert is good luck for his dad, Dan Gilbert, and the city of Cleveland.

The second winner of Tuesday night was the Mavericks as they squared off in game 1 of the Western Conference Finals against the Thunder in Dallas. Kevin Durant was great in this game with 40 points but it was Dirk Nowitzki who was best in show. Dirk scored 48 points and had a perfect 24-24 at the free throw line. Dirk does it again as the Mavericks win, 121-112. He also had some help from Jason Terry with 24 points and JJ Barea with 21 points. Mavericks take a 1-0 series lead despite having a week off.

A nice night of NBA programming. While the Mavericks did win and were the story of the night (possibly), a lot of attention now has to go to the Cavaliers. Speculation now begins about who will they take as the first pick and the 4th pick. Is Kyrie Irving the next thing for Cleveland? With a side of Jimmer?

P.S. Good for Cleveland getting such a nice draft order, especially the year after losing LeBron James to South Beach. Pity that the talent pool isn't at par.

P.P.S. A special announcement: The Sports Khan Radio Show will have it's season finale tomorrow at 2 PM on KSUNradio.com... Pretty Good. Don't worry, though. The show will be back in the fall of 2011.
