Many baseball teams have started off the year badly and one of those is the Minnesota Twins. Justin Morneau isn't doing well, Joe Mauer is on the DL because of his legs, and the Twins have an abysmal record as of now. Nothing has seemingly gone their way. Francisco Liriano started tonight against the White Sox and gave him team a much needed morale boost. Despite walking 6 batters and only striking out 2, Francisco Liriano threw a no hitter in a slim Twins victory, 1-0. This is the 7th no hitter thrown in the history of the franchise.
A very surprising thing to happen to Liriano considering he too was off to a bad start this season. Liriano was always a player that seemed to fluctuate throughout his career with seasons that made him look like a star and seasons that made him look like he was a bust. While this season was looking like a bust for Liriano, this one performance could turn things around for him and the team. Will just have to wait and see but, for now, nice job, Liriano.
P.S. And the first no-no this year by the way. Care to guess how many more will be pitched this year?
