Kings to Stay in Sacramento... For Now

Earlier this year, the Sacramento Kings were revealed to be looking for a new home outside the state capital of California. The Maloofs, owners of the Kings who have been looking to try and build a new arena in Sacramento to no avail, were looking into moving the team into the Honda Center down in Anaheim, California. That was reported over two months ago and it seemed that the move was inevitably coming. However, after two extensions of the relocation deadlines, the Kings are staying in Sacramento for at least one more season. However, team officials and the NBA have said if a new arena deal is not in place by the end of next season, the team will relocate to Anaheim or another more lucrative market.

I must say that at least this city is getting more time to get it right. I'm sure that Seattle would've liked more time. You have to give credit to Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, a former NBA All Star, who is trying desperately to keep the Kings in the city. However, it might all be for not. Voters have already turned down a bill for a new arena in the past and, considering where the NBA is headed, it may be impossible for a small market city, like Sacramento, to keep an NBA Franchise.

The smaller market teams are losing ground in the NBA with the continual dominance of the larger market teams. And with the recent trend of players coming together and making more powerful teams, it's going to get even worse for the lesser established franchises like Sacramento. Of course, the NBA is approaching a similar labor dispute like the NFL has except many of their owners are actually losing money like the Maloofs.

The big solution is obviously getting a new arena approved for construction but fans of the Kings can do their part. This possibly might be the last year for Sacramento to keep their team. I know the team is awful, the arena is crap, and the economy is still in a decline but if you can go to a game and you want the Kings to stay, go to a game. And if you can't go to the game, make your voice heard somehow... LEGALLY!!!

P.S. And if this team does eventually move, please don't move to the LA area. They already have two NBA teams down there: the Lakers and that one with Blake Griffin. Why not try looking into other places that don't have an NBA team like San Diego, St. Louis, or Seattle. No major metro area needs three professional teams from one league.

P.P.S. Okay, if you do move to LA, you're going to change the name, right? Two teams named Kings for different sports is going to be awfully confusing for one area.
